Class: Please use these postings as a reminder for due dates or to make up past work. Assignments can be accessed by clicking on links within the individual assignments.

Parents: You can keep up-to-date with your son or daughter's homework assignments. There may not be something due every day, but there is always homework that students should be working on every night.

These assignments are presented in reverse order, so the assignment that is current is first in the list. Page down to view older assignments.

REGENTS EXAM FOR ENGLISH IS JAN. 27TH & 28TH, 9:15-12:15 BOTH DAYS. ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 9AM! CHECK WITH MS. SCRAGG OR SEE POSTINGS OUTSIDE OF ROOM 441 TO SEE YOUR ROOM ASSIGNMENT FOR BOTH DAYS OF THE EXAM. IF YOU ARE NOT ON THE LIST, ARE IN E5 AND HAVE NEVER TAKEN THE EXAM BEFORE, SEE MS. REISIN IN ROOM 441 ASAP TO BE GIVEN A ROOM ASSIGNMENT. DON'T WAIT FOR THE DAY OF THE TEST--IT MIGHT BE TOO LATE!

Due Tuesday, January 7th: Write Gatsby's obituary

Due Monday, January 6th: Next set of vocabulary words, #101-120, sentences & definitions

Due Thursday, January 2nd: 1) Finish The Great Gatsby (ch's 8 & 9), do ONE difficulty journal on both chapters, and dialectical notes on chapters 7-9; 2) Next set of vocabulary words #81-100, sentences & definitions

Due Thursday, December 19th: Read Ch 7 in The Great Gatsby & do a difficulty journal on the chapter

Due Monday, December 16th: Read Ch. 6 in The Great Gatsby, do a difficulty journal just on the chapter, and 10 pairs of dialectical notes on chapters 4-6

FOURTH VOCABULARY TEST, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 11TH!

Due Monday, December 9th: Read Ch. 5 in The Great Gatsby & do a difficulty journal on the chapter.

THIRD VOCABULARY TEST, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 5TH!

Due Wednesday, December 4th: Write the letter that Daisy received @ the end of Chapter 4 (mentioned on p. 81).

Due Monday, December 2nd: #1-Read Ch. 4 in The Great Gatsby & write a difficulty journal on the chapter, #2-Do the next set of vocabulary words, #61-80, sentences & definitions

Due Tuesday, November 26th: #1-Read all of chapter 3 of The Great Gatsby and write a difficulty journal just on the chapter. #2-Do @ least 10 pairs of dialectical notes for Chapters 1-3 of The Great Gatsby.

Due Tuesday, November 19th: Read all of chapter 2 of The Great Gatsby

Due Monday, November 18th: Task 1B on the 1920s

The Last Day To Hand In Work For the 2nd Marking Period is FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15th!!

Due Thursday, November 14th: Read all of chapter 1 of The Great Gatsby

Due Tuesday, November 12th: Write a short essay on "A Person I Admire"--this person that you choose must be of your same gender.

Due Friday, November 8th: Write a response to the Jamaica Kincaid story "Girl"--write a page of advice to a boy. Title your piece "Boy" and imitate Jamaica Kincaid's style as closely as you can.

Due Wednesday, November 6th: Task 3A on Speaking out Against Injustice

Due Monday, November 4th: 1) Read "A Rose for Emily," by William Faulkner. 2) Come up with @ least 5 questions about the story, 3) Create a "difficulty journal." In the journal, describe what you had trouble understanding in the story, what you are curious about, what questions came up for you, etc.

Due Thursday, October 31st: Answer 15 of the 20 questions included on the "20 Questions on The Crucible" sheet.

Due Tuesday, October 29th: 1) Read "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?" by Joyce Carol Oates; 2) Write down at least 5 questions that you have about the story; 3) Create at least 10 entries of dialectical notes (click HERE for an example): create 2 columns, on one side collect at least 10 quotes/lines from the short story, in the second column write your reaction to these lines.

Due Thursday, October 24th: Task 2A on the Hollywood Blacklist

Due Tuesday, October 22nd: Look up the word "crucible" and write down the definition you find.

Due Monday, October 21st: Critical Lens Paper #3 and Critical Lens Paper #4

Due Thursday, October 17th: Critical Lens Paper #2

Due Monday, October 14th: Go online & look at some examples of arrest warrants from the Salem Court of 1692. Write the arrest warrants of Elizabeth Proctor, Martha Corey, and Rebecca Nurse in the best Puritan language you can imitate.

END OF FIRST MARKING PERIOD THURSDAY, OCTOBER 10TH!

Due Thursday, October 10th: Next set of vocabulary words, #41-60, sentences & definitions for each word.

SECOND VOCABULARY TEST: MONDAY, OCTOBER 7TH

Friday, October 4th--Our first SPARK visit.

Due Thursday, October 3rd: Write a monologue in the voice of one of five main characters in The Crucible: Abigail, John Proctor, Elizabeth Proctor, Reverend Parris, or Reverend Hale. Write in the 1st person, and be true to that character's personality & situation.

Due Wednesday, October 2nd: Critical Lens Paper #1

Due Monday, September 30th: Write a newspaper story discussing the recent witchcraft story that is breaking in Salem, Massachusetts. You can be as creative as you wish as long as you stick to the basic facts presented in Act One of The Crucible.

Due Friday, September 27th: Vocabulary Words 21-40, sentences & definitions

Due Monday, September 23rd: Task 1A on the Puritans & Witchcraft

FIRST VOCABULARY TEST: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20TH

Due Tuesday, September17th: Ad analysis (see original handouts on media literacy)

Due Thursday, September12th: Vocabulary Words 1-20, sentences & definitions
